Frequently Asked Questions
- How many colours are in the reference table?
- 127 entries, of which 125 are distinct colours. Two pairs share a value: Aqua and Cyan are both #00FFFF, and Fuchsia and Magenta are both #FF00FF. Earlier versions of this page said 147, which was wrong.
- Why do the HEXA, RGBA and HSLA rows always show full opacity?
- Because there is no alpha control on this page. Those three values are written with a fixed alpha of 255, or 1 in the CSS notations — the picker only produces a red, green and blue value, so nothing you can adjust here will change the transparency shown.
- Do the HSV, CMYK and XYZ rows work as CSS colours?
- No. Only HEX, RGB, HSL and their alpha variants — plus LAB and LCH — are valid CSS colour notations. HSV, HWB, CMYK and XYZ are printed in a matching function-like style because it is readable, but a browser will not accept them in a stylesheet as written. Use them for reference and convert before pasting into CSS.
- Is anything sent to a server?
- No. The picker, the conversions and the reference table all run in your browser. Nothing you type or select is transmitted or stored.
